5 Claves
For years, the way workspaces were distributed remained unchanged, with independent offices on either side of a corridor or monotonous rows of closed-off cubicles that discouraged interaction between employees. In recent decades, however, -with a view to encouraging communication between work teams or company departments- open-plan workspaces have been designed to facilitate mobility and do away with barriers and hierarchies. Although this was aesthetically pleasing, provided greater freedom amd did indeed facilitate communication between staff members, it also gave rise to a series of distractions that hampered productivity.
Nowadays, technological developments and improved communications have changed the dynamics of the workspace. Employees are now able to perform some of their tasks outside company premises, and there are also times when they need private workspaces in which to work alone without distractions. So how can we strike a balance between the two approaches?
Hybrid offices: the key to productivity
In the quest for quality workspaces, hybrid offices offer the perfect combination between private spaces -to favour concentration- and open areas for social interaction that promote communication and mingling.
We're talking about quality offices designed to raise productivity without neglecting the social factor and the integration of teams and departments. Some of the main advantages they provide are as follows:
1. Privacy and collaboration
Hybrid offices include seclude, noise -and distraction- free sections in which to work either alone or in small groups that need to hold brainstorming sessions, private meetings or conferences, answer phone calls, etc. Nevertheless, these quality offices also feature open areas for collaborative work, swapping ideas and opinions, and personal communication in general.
2. Easy on the eye
These workspaces retain the leading-edge, elegant and aesthetic style of the open-plan format. Hybrid offices are characterised by plenty of natural light, green areas and large spaces that offer peace and quiet and harmonious surroundings.
3. Common areas
These include areas for employees to interact in, such as canteens, gyms and outdoor areas. They provide settings in which to take a break in which to visualise ideas and projects more effectively.
4. Versatile design
There are no cut-and-dry rules for distributing areas and furnishing a hybrid office. Their design depends entirely on company needs. The location of each element is based on factors such as corporative image, work dynamics and the size of the work force.
5. Work flexibility
The use of mobile technology and cloud software has meant that team members can perform many tasks remotely -even from home- which provides greater flexibility in working hours. When at the office, employees have the freedom to choose where and how they'll work every day, depending on the needs and tasks at hand.
The balance implicit in hybrid offices is the key to raising employee productivity, harmony and job satisfaction. By having different venues for different tasks -such as those available at the World Trade Center Barcelona-, you'll create more effective work teams and more committed employees, since they'll always have the spaces the need to carry out their everyday activities.
