3RD EDITION OF THE PORT OF BARCELONA NIGHT RACE
Last 13th June more than 1,000 runners crossed the finishing line of the 3rd Port of Barcelona night race. The race was a major success and goes to show just how popular the running boom has become in Barcelona. Next year’s race has already been confirmed too.
The starting gun was fired at 11:45 p.m., perhaps not the best time for athletes to test their stamina to the max, but the route through the most emblematic parts of the Port of Barcelona facilities is well worth it. The race starts in Drassanes, crosses the Port d’Europa bridge twice, continues through the loading zone and then follows the Breakwater, one of the high points being the Moll Adossat, where the great cruise ships that visit Barcelona dock for passengers to board and disembark.
The race is certainly different to others held in Barcelona: it avoids the downtown hustle and bustle, takes place at a peculiar time, starts one day and ends the next, and includes all basic services for runners (provisioning, clothes lockers, etc.) Although the route isn’t as easy as in other races, it’s not dramatically tough and you’ll cross the finishing line savouring memories of having overcome yet another challenge.
