LA BARCELONETA : A BEGUILING BLEND OF ATMOSPHERES
One of Barcelona’s trendiest neighbourhoods, La Barceloneta is just down the road from WTCB. Full of magic and history, it’s a sailors’ district right on the seafront and is well known for its tasty tapas bars and seafood restaurants. Its bohemian, Mediterranean feel has turned it into a classic rendez-vous in the city’s coolest guidebooks, which tout it as one of Barcelona’s most enchanting areas.
The best way to get to know and enjoy Barceloneta is to wander around its streets with no particular plan in mind. The oldest part is characterised by narrow streets teeming with people, especially on weekends, when entire families come to spend the day relaxing on its beaches and terraces in the sunshine. Part of Barceloneta’s charm lies in the hodge-podge of fashions and people you’ll come across: locals and tourists, traditional families and urban design tribes, etc.
And after a stroll down its streets, the next thing to do is find a place to sample some fine seafood dishes. Barceloneta is full of excellent eateries, but our favourite restaurant is , where you can try all kinds of rice and fish platters in a cozy atmosphere far from the hustle and bustle of the seafront, where most tourists gather. If tapas are what you’re after, we recommend , a versatile, laid-back restaurant where you can sip a cocktail, listen to music as you eat, or just enjoy the neighbourhood and indulge in people watching.
