MONTJUÏC: BARCELONA’S LUNG
This winter we’ve been hearing a lot about the high levels of air pollution in most European cities. Madrid, Paris, London and, to be sure, Barcelona, are among the most affected.
This has made us think about the importance of working in natural surroundings, or at least as natural as possible, near green areas that will help us offset our unhealthy surroundings.
Even the most die-hard urbanites have had to recognise that what we used to view as a whim is now a necessity.
However, since we’re city dwellers, looking for a place in the country well away from urban centres is really not an option. We must therefore look for green areas within the city limits.
And if we’re talking about Barcelona, it seems luck is on our side, as there can be no doubt that one of the city’s most emblematic, favoured areas is the mountain of Montjuïc, which has been baptised Barcelona’s lung.
Although we used to say working near Montjuïc is a privilege because of its wealth of sports facilities, cultural venues and top-notch restaurants, we must now highlight the value of its many green areas.
And that’s the thing, the air is cleaner in Montjuïc too.
